Pancake Making Day

Cooking up a plate of fluffy pancakes is not just a great activity but it is also an opportunity to apply what we learn about measurements, plus helping us know how products are made before they are used. As part of our Unit of Inquiry, the students have learnt the word “process” which means -- a series of steps or actions that a person needs to do to achieve a particular end. This “process” is used in making different products such as pancakes.

Through the help of our Grade 1 parents, Mrs. Linda Tanzil and Mrs. Suriana Loh, we are able to show the kids the process of making pancakes. Curiosity questions are raised before and after making pancakes such as why do we need to measure the ingredients? Why do we need to flip the pancakes? What will happen if we forgot to put eggs? What will happen if we will not mix it well? What will happen if there is too much ingredients? As we move along the process, these questions are answered.

Everyone is excited to try each process. They have listened attentively and followed each steps carefully. Here is the process of making pancakes we learned from our dear Mommies.

1.  Measure dry ingredients.

  • 130 grams of flour

  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda

  • ¼ teaspoon of salt

  • 1 ½ spoons of sugar

2.  Mix the following wet ingredients.

  • 1 egg

  • 140 ml buttermilk

  • 2 teaspoons of melted butter

3.  Heat the pan for few minutes.

4.  Pour enough amount of pancake mixture and wait for it to bubble.

5.  Flip the pancake to cook the other side.

6.  Once ready, serve and put your favorite toppings.

The pancake making session has ended well and so everyone is happy because apart from the ideas we learned, our stomach is also full.
