Grade 2 Field Trip to the Polresta Barelang

As part of their Unit of Inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves, our Grade 2 PYP students recently visited the local police station to deepen their understanding of the central idea: Cities consist of interconnected services, goods, and systems to meet the needs of urban communities.

During the visit, students were warmly welcomed by police officers who introduced them to the important role they play in keeping the community safe, organized, and functioning smoothly. The students explored different areas of the station, including the reception area and operations rooms, where they observed how officers communicate, coordinate, and respond to emergencies.

They were especially fascinated by the tools and equipment used in daily police work, gaining insight into how these systems support law enforcement.

The students discovered how the police service is connected to other essential community systems, such as transportation, healthcare, and public safety services. They began to understand that a city functions effectively because different systems work together, each playing an important role in meeting the needs of its people.

This meaningful learning experience allowed students to make strong real-world connections to their classroom inquiries. It also helped them develop a deeper appreciation for cooperation, responsibility, and organization within a community. The trip was both educational and inspiring, leaving students with new knowledge, lasting memories, and a clearer understanding of how cities function as well-connected systems.
