Grade 2 Assembly: Caring for Our Oceans

On Friday, October 17, 2025, the Grade 2 students proudly presented their assembly on Marine Life, connected to their Unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet. The central idea of this unit is: “Protecting and respecting marine life supports the balance of nature and helps create a sustainable future for all living things.”

Through their wonderful performances, the students showcased their understanding of how marine animals live, the challenges our oceans face, and the actions we can take to protect them. The assembly began with a joyful “I Love the Ocean” performance, where students played the pianica and sang beautifully about the wonders of the sea. This was followed by “Our Amazing Marine Life,” a UOI presentation where students confidently shared their learning about ocean creatures and ways to care for them.

Each performance reflected the students’ growing awareness and responsibility toward protecting our planet. They spoke confidently about the importance of reducing waste, recycling, and taking small steps to keep marine life safe. A heartwarming drama titled “The Ocean Story” depicted the beauty of ocean life and how people can help by keeping the seas clean. The audience also enjoyed a Mandarin drama, “We Like Marine Life,” where students performed using simple Mandarin sentences.

Adding even more color and excitement, the students presented “Ikan di Pante,” a lively dance inspired by the sea, and “Jaranan,” a traditional cultural dance where students explained its meaning and origins. The energy continued with a fun and rhythmic “Soda Pop” dance performance that had everyone clapping along!

To conclude the assembly, students shared their “I Can” statements, highlighting the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills they developed during the unit—such as communication, cooperation, and research skills.

What made this assembly even more special was that students were able to choose the performances they wanted to join. Through auditions, teachers guided them in finding the best roles to showcase their strengths and talents.

It was a day filled with learning, joy, and teamwork. The Grade 2 students truly reminded everyone that even small actions can make a big difference in protecting our oceans and building a sustainable future. We are very proud of our Grade 2 students for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to caring for the environment. Their performances inspired our whole school community to remember that protecting marine life is a shared responsibility.
