On 27 and 28 August, our IBDP Grade 12 students invited the SGIA community to step into the world of Theory of Knowledge (TOK) through this year’s TOK Exhibition, “Seasons of Knowledge: Is Knowledge Ever Fixed?”

Over two engaging days, students shared weeks of questioning, research, discussion, and reflection as they explored how knowledge can be constructed, challenged, reshaped, and even overturned across different times, cultures, and disciplines.

From Objects to Big Questions

At the heart of each exhibition display was a real-world object. While the objects themselves were familiar, the questions surrounding them were anything but simple.

Students used their chosen objects to explore ideas about certainty, perspective, evidence, interpretation, and change, building thoughtful arguments that connected everyday experiences to broader questions about how we know what we know.

Visitors moved from one exhibition station to another, discovering the reasoning behind each display and engaging directly with the Grade 12 exhibitors. Many stopped to ask questions, challenge ideas, or simply explore a different perspective.

 

Learning Through Listening and Questioning

The exhibition also provided a valuable opportunity for students across different grade levels to experience TOK in action.

On Day 1, Grade 11 IB students visited the exhibition, offering them an early glimpse into the TOK journey that lies ahead. Parents also joined the exhibition, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations between students and the wider school community.

 

On Day 2, the exhibition welcomed Grade 10 and Grade 5 students, alongside more parents. For our younger learners, it was a chance to see our senior students thinking deeply, presenting confidently, and engaging with questions that do not always have one clear answer.

 

Knowledge Is a Journey, Not a Destination

Perhaps the greatest learning from the exhibition was not something that could be written on a test or measured by a grade. Students had the opportunity to think aloud, defend their ideas, listen to different perspectives, and remain open to changing their minds.

This is at the heart of Theory of Knowledge. TOK is not about memorising answers. It is about learning to ask better questions and having the courage to examine what we think we know.

The success of the exhibition was a reflection of the hard work, creativity, and intellectual curiosity of our Grade 12 students. We are proud of the way they transformed TOK concepts into meaningful conversations and welcomed the school community into their learning journey.

As the exhibition came to a close, we hope everyone who participated—presenters and visitors alike—left with one important question lingering in their minds:
