Grade 1 Assembly: Sharing Our Learning Through Art, Music, and Drama

Sunrise Gradient Art

Throughout the transdisciplinary theme “How we express ourselves”, Grade 1 students explored different art forms and became familiar with various artists and their unique styles. They discovered how artists use different media, including sculpture, music, painting, and textile art, to express their ideas, interests, and beliefs. Through these explorations, students also learned that behind every artwork is an idea, a story, or an inspiration that gives it meaning.

To celebrate their learning, the Grade 1 students brought the unit to a close with a wonderful assembly that showcased their creativity through art, music, dance, and drama.

The programme featured a Bahasa Indonesia drama depicting the life of a famous artist, alongside presentations introducing the biographies of various artists. These performances helped the students and audience learn more about the artists’ lives, inspirations, and contributions to the world of art.

The assembly also featured a variety of dance performances, each conveying messages connected to the songs and themes of art. One performance explored patterns, showing how patterns are not only found in Mathematics but are also an important element of art. Meanwhile, our international students had the opportunity to showcase their talents through a performance accompanied by Indonesian music, celebrating the diversity of our school community.

Music was another highlight of the assembly. The students performed Kokoleoko as a musical ensemble, using creative, student-made instruments. These included upcycled materials such as used water bottles, bottle caps, and paper plates. Through this performance, students demonstrated how everyday materials can be transformed into musical instruments and used to create music together.

To conclude the celebration, parents were invited to a gallery walk in the MPH, where they could admire the artworks their children had created throughout the unit. The exhibition featured a variety of creations, including foil sculptures, paper collages, pottery, and other artworks. A dedicated gallery space allowed students to share their creative journeys and gave parents a closer look at how their children had expressed their ideas through different media.

Overall, the Grade 1 assembly was a meaningful celebration of the students’ learning and creativity. It was a wonderful experience for the students and a beautiful expression of their learning throughout the unit.
