IB Grade 11 Group 4 Project Presentation
Interdisciplinary Learning, Empowering, Inspiring and Mentoring
Sekolah Global Indo-Asia believes in practical learning and integration of different skills to come up with productive and meaningful activities that develop students to flourish not only intellectually but build positive characters that can be observed to their actions. The IBDP curriculum gives students the chance to work on collaborative projects working on their chosen topics. Its uniqueness and strength develop students’ creativity, ingenuity and patience to meet the ten hours to come up with a meaningful Group 4 Project Presentation. The project is a collaborative assignment which combines the three sciences into one research project surrounding their chosen topic that focuses on Materials. The results of the researches aim not only as information but emphasized their practicality and application in life.
This year, the IBDP batch was given high expectations to maximize the ten hours on their projects, and the outcomes were impressive. Not only did they manage to present everything, but the amount of effort the students put into this whole assignment was remarkable and exceeded the expectations significantly. The grade 11 presented the project outputs using diverse methodologies like forum, dialogue, role playing and use of interactive activities made the presentations more interactive, entertaining and informative.
The project titles are: Plastique Ain't Fantastique, Food Industry “Effects of Canteen Foods on the Student Body of SGIA.”, I Scream For Ice Cream, To Grow Or Not To Grow, Preserve the Future, The Power of Acid Rain.
The Science Display Boards were remarkably planned, executed and designed that add to the value of the project presentation. Evidently, the outputs were different in each of the groups. Stage fright was an issue for some, as they feared that it would have an impact on the presentation, but overall it was a proud moment for the students as they could finally present what they had been preparing for so long, their hard work ultimately paying off. As the Grade 11 students presented their research, the grade 10 and experienced seniors of Grade 12 IB were undoubtedly impressed and overwhelmed with the effort and hard work done for this year group 4 projects. It was a nerve-wracking experience, but a memorable one for sure.
To acknowledge students’ contributions to the success of the activity Best Group 4 Project, Best Group 4 Project Presentation and Best Science Displays been awarded. The Power of Acid Rain was able to captivate the judges so much that they won all three categories. Many were slightly taken aback by the turn of events, but our research wasn’t all for naught as we got to gain new information we could apply and moreover, educate those unaware about the topics concerned. Group 4 project was thoroughly tiring but it was a pleasant experience for us inquirers of the Grade 11 IBDP.

Here are some of the reflective statements from the groups.
“The Group 4 project gave me the opportunity to work on the project out of my comfort zone. We educate ourselves and the community about the significance of the Dangers of Plastic. We have gone through a series of obstacles and had successfully overcome them as a group. We made a programme and made our presentation. It was fun! It prepared me for upcoming projects and reports”.

“Our Group 4 mainly focuses on the different fat content in different brands of ice cream, whether the ice creams are cheap or expensive. In the chemistry part of the investigation, I conducted the emulsion test to obtain lipids in 4 different brands of ice cream. Not only I learned a new and effective way to do these experiments and collecting data, but I also learned how to work collaboratively with my group mates. The Group 4 project was challenging, we overcome a lot of obstacles along the way, tackling with time, but we pulled it through and did our best. We managed to do a good job in the decoration of the board and of course the presentation. But it would've been much better if we had planned it earlier and efficiently. We learned from our mistakes, such as being more disciplined, responsible and being more committed to take actions in the next project that I will have”.

“I and my team investigate about acid rain where we discovered how acid rain affects the degradation of different materials and effect towards plants. We presented using drama to make the presentation more engaging and entertaining. I also learn to gain better cooperation with peers and gain good leadership skills. Overall it is a great experience for me and my peers”.
Zeke
“On my group 4 project, I investigated the effect of salt on the resistance of pickled apples, we presented with a formal presentation format, and I have learned the importance of pre-project planning and time management. Overall, the project ran smoothly although there are some obstacles we had to overcome”.
Thaddeus
“Coming into this group four project I wanted to gain a better understanding of what a collaborative work in the science department is. During these past few months of preparing for the presentation I learned how to work on a deadline, being a leader, and working efficiently in a group”.
